The data summarized in this document is pulled directly from the Washington State Office of Financial Management (OFM). RCW 43.62.030 states that OFM shall annually determine the April 1 populations of all cities and towns of the state. OFM population estimates for cities and towns are used in state program administration and in the allocation of selected state revenues (RCW 43.62.020). Population estimates for counties are used to allocate revenues as specified in RCW 36.13.100 and RCW 43.62.030. The dataset used in the following summary can be downloaded here.

The population of the PSRC region totaled more than 3690942 people in 2010. By 2020, the total population of the region had grown to more than 4264200 people, an increase of 573,260 people over 10 years. More than 56% of the State of Washington called the Puget Sound Region home in 2020.
In 2010, approximately 68% of the regional population lived in our region’s vibrant cities and towns. By 2020 the share of population in cities and towns had grown to 71%, accounting for more than 3,040,400 people living in the region’s incorporated places.
There are 82 cities and towns in the PSRC region. The largest city in 2020 was Seattle with a population of approximately 761,100 people. The smallest place in the region in 2020 was the Town of Index with around 180 people.
There are 4 counties that make up the Puget Sound Region and they are King, Kitsap, Pierce, Snohomish counties. The population distribution of the 4 counties are shown below:
King County was home to 1,931,200 people in 2010. By 2020, the total population of the county had grown to more than 2,260,800 people, an increase of 329,550 people over 10 years.
